The Cooke Foundation College Scholarship Program is available to high-achieving high school seniors with financial need who seek to attend the nation’s best four-year colleges and universities. In addition to the monetary award, Cooke Scholars receive comprehensive educational advising, significant cohort-based programming, and graduate school funding.
Each award is intended to cover a significant share of the student’s educational expenses – including tuition, living expenses, books and required fees. Awards vary by individual, based on the cost of tuition as well as other grants or scholarships he or she may receive.
This highly competitive scholarship includes:
- Up to $55,000 per year to attend a four-year accredited undergraduate school
- Ability to pursue any area of study
- Personal advising about selecting a college and navigating financial aid
- Multifaceted advising about how to transition to college and maximize the college student experience
Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Senior standing –

- GPA – Earn a minimum, cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above.
- Income – Demonstrate unmet financial need. We will consider applicants with family income up to $95,000. Last year’s cohort of new college scholarship recipients had a median family income of approximately $35,000.

2. Be the child or legal dependent of a Polk-Burnett Electric Cooperative member. (A member is someone who buys electricity from the co-op; parent/guardian must be named on the electric account.)
3. Be continuing their education after high school at an accredited technical school, college or university.

applicants that plan to pursue a career in a field that supports the values of Star Prairie Fish and Game. Examples of this could include Game Warden, Fisheries Biologist or Wildlife Management (or other field of study related to natural resources, conservation/ environment or biology) careers that likely will lead you to working in the great outdoors. Applicants must have attended Amery, New Richmond, Osceola or St. Croix Falls High School. Applicants need to write a very brief essay of 500 words or less on how outdoor experiences from your youth influenced your decision to pursue an outdoor related field. Essays should not include your name or any identifying information in the body of the essay. Bring your essay to your school counselor, and we will mail the applications on your behalf as we have to make sure that the applications remain anonymous. Along with your essay, write a brief statement of what post-secondary college you plan to attend and your intended major |

- Be a Wisconsin resident. Residency is defined by WSCA when:
- An independent student or the parents of a dependent student have continuously resided in Wisconsin for the previous 12 months.
- A student has continuously enrolled a minimum of one academic year within the past 12-month period at a Wisconsin high school.
- Be a graduating Wisconsin high school student during the current academic year.
- In the state of Wisconsin for any reason, other than a temporary purpose (ie. student visa, travel visa, etc.)
- Are attending a public or private high school in Wisconsin
- Will be attending a post-secondary education program during the 2025-2026 school year.
SUBMISSION CRITERIA:
- Submit single-page essay length (3+ sentences) answers for each of the following two questions:
- Question 1: Think about your experiences with school counselors throughout your education (elementary, middle and high schools), describe a time when a school counselor helped you overcome a barrier or obstacle and how that helped you to succeed.
- Question 2: How has your school counselor(s) helped you prepare for your postsecondary path and how would earning this scholarship support you in those plans? Provide specific examples of lessons, workshops, conferences and/or conversations that were meaningful to you in creating your post high school plan.
