If you are interested in any of the following opportunities for next year, you must complete the appropriate application listed below.
Study Hall DUE MARCH 15
Students may apply for a study hall if they are enrolled in 1 or more AP, ECCP, SCN courses, are currently participating in a sport/drama/music, are currently working outside school hours, or have a unique circumstance. If a student takes Study Hall, they can not take Non-Attending in addition. No credit is awarded for a study hall. *Four year colleges encourage students to take classes all day at school. *Available to current 8th-11th grade students.
Coffee Shop DUE MARCH 15
The purpose of The Oasis at OHS is to provide employability skills, interpersonal skills, and soft skills to students at OHS. Students working in The Oasis at OHS will gain real-life experience working in and managing a coffee shop. Students are graded on participation and effort, as well as formative and summative assignments. Students are trained in all areas of the coffee shop and expected to carry out daily responsibilities. *Available to current 9th-11th grade students.
Yearbook Editor DUE MARCH 15
Students may apply to become a grade level yearbook editor. As a yearbook editor, a student will assist with the creation and organization of the yearly production of The Chieftain. The Chieftain promotes the student life and events of the school year. Senior Editors may be eligible for school credit if all requirements are met. *Available to current 9th-11th grade students. *This opportunity will open up for incoming 9th graders in Fall 2024.
Advanced Placement (AP) Course(s) DUE MARCH 11
AP courses allow students to enroll in rigorous, college-level courses while in high school. Students wishing to register for an AP course must complete this application which requires signatures from the student, parent(s)/guardian(s), as well as the AP teacher. *Available to current 9th-11th grade students.
Career Academy Program (CAP) DONE
Career Academy Program is an individualized project-based learning opportunity for students in grades 11-12 that utilizes community connections and employment opportunities. Students will spend time in an employment setting and in the Career Academy Program classroom. In addition to the application, students will have to interview for the program. *Available to current 10th and 11th grade students.
Chieftain Outpost Store Manager DONE
The store manager coordinates the operation of the Chieftain Outpost which promotes the sale of Osceola Chieftain items and memorabilia. Students may earn school credit if all requirements are met. *Available to current 10th and 11th grade students.
Early College Credit Program (ECCP) DUE MARCH 1
This program allows students to take college courses for both high school and college credit. These courses must not be comparable to courses offered at OHS. Students must meet the admission requirements of the college/university as well as college course prerequisites. Applications are due to Nicole Brown by March 1st for Fall 2024 classes. *Available to current 8th-11th grade students.
Non-Attending DUE MARCH 15
Seniors who are on track to meet their graduation requirements along with having taken courses toward their career goal, may choose to have non-attending in their schedule. Therefore students are allowed to arrive late or leave early from the traditional school day. If a student takes Non-Attending, they can not take a study hall in addition. No credit is awarded for non-attending hours. *Four year colleges encourage students to take classes all day at school.
Peer Tutor DUE MARCH 15
Peer tutors will support the academic, career, personal, and social goals of all students under the supervision of a teacher or support staff member. The purpose of the course is to empower and include the student body in providing resources for students in need of additional support. Locations may include supported study hall, and/or classroom, Grades will be determined based on participation, attitude, daily, and weekly reflections. *Available to current 9-11th grade students.
Personal Finance (Summer Option) DUE MARCH 15
Students have an option to take Personal Finance in the summer to satisfy this graduation requirement. This is a self-paced virtual course that allows students to complete work to fit a busy summer schedule. The course will take between 50 and 55 hours and must be completed between May 26, 2024 through June 28, 2024. Physical Education Credit Option DUE BY END OF TRI I SENIOR YEAR
Eligible students may complete an additional one-half credit course in English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science or Health education that is not otherwise required for graduation in lieu of one-half credit of physical education for purposes of high school graduation. *Available to current 11th grade students.
Start College Now (SCN) DUE MARCH 1
Juniors and seniors may take college courses at the Wisconsin Technical Colleges and earn both high school and college credit at the same time. Students must meet the admission requirements of the technical college as well as the college course prerequisites. Applications are due to Nicole Brown by March 1st for Fall 2024 classes. *Available to current 10th and 11th grade students.
Welding Academy Application DUE MARCH 1
The Welding Academy introduces you to the basics of SMAW and GMAW. It includes the study of metals and equipment used when welding. The instruction emphasizes accepted applications in butting and joining metals using standard welding techniques.
Why Wait Application DUE MARCH 15
Students may apply to take this two trimester English course. The premise of WHY WAIT is simple: it provides the opportunity to analyze and study a topic and complete a project that helps you to tackle a “wicked problem” in the world. *Available to current 10th and 11th grade students.
Work Experience and Youth Apprenticeship (YA) DONE
Students who are looking to work during the school year may apply for Work Experience and Youth Apprenticeship. This allows students to reduce their school day and still earn high school credit from the hours they work. High school credit is awarded based on the hours worked. Students receive a pass/fail grade. *Four year colleges encourage students to take classes all day at school. *Available to current 10th and 11th grade students.
