Elementary School Challenges
Osceola Elementary School was built in 1963 with additions in 1965 and 1989. A facilities assessment identified the following needs: ✓ Updates are needed to improve building safety and security. ✓ The plumbing, air circulation, and electrical systems are original to the building, inefficient, and at risk of failure. ✓ The building is not air conditioned, and the heating system is nearing the end of its service life. ✓ Classrooms are outdated and too small for our youngest learners. ✓ Areas for students with special needs do not have appropriate restrooms and lack needed space and equipment. ✓ Pedestrians, cars, and buses should be better separated in drop-off/pick-up areas. ✓ There is not enough parking, and the asphalt needs to be replaced. ✓ Playground equipment needs to be replaced with age-appropriate structures to improve accessibility for all students. ✓ Areas of the school do not comply with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) codes. ✓ The fire alarm system is outdated and needs to be replaced. ✓ Lighting is inefficient. ✓ Many doors, floors, and ceilings are original and need to be replaced.
These projects cannot be paid for in our annual budget. Instead, we would need to secure funding through a facilities referendum.
