LET GROW PLAY CLUB!

The Let Grow Play Club is an idea that sprouted from the book, "The Anxious Generation." The idea is simple, give back responsibility, independence and free play to children. Remember the days when kids would come home from school and make up their own outdoor fun from basic items found in the garage, yard and neighborhood?

This club provides opportunities for participants to make their own fun, without adults organizing or structuring their play. In this club, participants will learn how to navigate the world of play with their peers, without adults stepping in and solving their problems. The club is based on loose parts play (tires, buckets, small crates, cable spools, etc), which is a type of open-ended play that encourages children to use their creativity and imagination. Children can manipulate, move, and combine loose parts to build, solve problems, and learn new skills. Hard work can be disguised in fun free play.  Free play gives children the chance to collaborate with friends, resolve disputes and bounce back from disappointments. This club will be supervised by instructors but they will not organize the fun, or solve the peer to peer challenges. Participants will be empowered to manage their social interactions in this club.
