Art Adventures

Have fun exploring a variety of artistic mediums with inspirational artist, Suzanne Vadnais Monson. During this five week series, students will explore a wide variety of creative processes and techniques, creating new pieces of art each week. All materials are included for each session.

The five sessions include:
Woven Friendship Bracelets - Make a bunch of cool bracelets using a large variety of materials, such as colorful glass, wood and metal beads. Learn braiding, weaving and macrame techniques to create beautiful designs that are yours to take home at the end of class.
Fun with Design - Printmaking & Stamping - Create your very own frameable work of art using printmaking and stamping techniques to explore design fundamentals. Have fun working with a wide variety of colorful painted papers, rubber stamps, stencils and more!
Collage Treasure Boxes - Create your very own papier mache art treasure box with lid.
Fun with Fabric - Paint a shirt that only YOU could design! Using a shirt from home, you will learn the art of stenciling, stamping and painting on fabric.
Pastel Landscapes - Discover the artist’s world of soft and oil pastel painting and drawing. We will be using sponges and blending stumps to draw and shape layers for colorful works of art.

Who can join?: Students in Grades K - 6

Dates/Times: Wednesdays, March 19th, 26th, April 2nd, 9th and 16th (3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.). Instructor will meet students right after school in the OES Art Room. Class will begin at 3:30 p.m.

Location: OES Art Room

Cost: $45 for entire 5 week series

What is needed for class?

All materials are included in each session, with the exception of a t-shirt for session 4, Fun with Fabric. For this session, students will need to bring a t-shirt from home to create their design. Dress for mess!!

After-School Logistics

• Kids Klub - If your student is in Kids Klub, please notify them of your student’s after school plans.
• Notify School - Please notify your student’s school of their after school plans.
• OES students will report to the art room; OIS students will take Bus 7 to OES; OMS students will take Bus 21 to OES.

Bead Retreats

Would you like to learn how to design and create your own jewelry? Join professional artist and jewelry designer Suzanne Vadnais Monson for this hands-on deep dive into the world of personal adornment. Suzanne has been creating Bead Retreats for teens and adults since 2005, offering fun ways to make jewelry that looks as good as what you can buy!

Choose from a dazzling palette of beads, including crystal, semi precious stone, carved wood, metal, glass and stone, as well as gold, silver, bronze and copper jewelry findings. Discover tricks to help you recognize quality materials by working with the many examples provided.

Join any one of the three classes, or attend all three ($59 for individual class/$150 for all three).

Necklaces in Three Styles
Saturday, April 5th - 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
Design a lariat, choker, and princess length (18”) necklace. Learn the elements of design that are involved in creating necklaces that work together or can be worn individually.

The Match Set: Bracelets, Necklaces and Earrings Galore
Saturday, April 12th - 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Learn the principles of design to create unique bead pairings. Create several pairs of earrings, 2 bracelets and one 18” necklace.

Bracelets for Every Occasion
Saturday, April 26th - 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. 
In this class you will make a multi-strand bracelet, charm bracelet and a woven three strand bracelet.

Who can join?: Ages 13 and up (teens and adults)
